Orvieto - An Unexpected Delight

On the way from Rome to Florence with Busabout we took a two hour break in a little hillside town called Orvieto. Seriously, I do believe that town was the most amazing of our trip so far. Although it cannot compare to Venice in certain ways it also had characteristics unique unto itself. One such unique characteristic is that it is a town built into and on top of a mountain. You must take a train lift to access it. It is so beautiful and relaxing, in fact, that the Roman Catholic Popes used to visit the little town for vacation in years past. It's quaint, quiet and just simply beautiful. We stopped there for lunch and pictures and immediately fell in love.

  1. Looks like a great time. I lived in Germany for 3 years and miss everyday that I am away. May I suggest if you have plans to visit Germany the Mosel valley region is incredibly beautiful in western Germany. Trier Germany is a hidden jewel in the vine growing region with sites to see like Constantine's thrown room the only 1 rm Roman structure still standing, a Roman Amphitheater and bath house, viking and celtic ruins and an incredible cathedral with underground tunnels to explore and artifacts to see. If no one has already told you about Ryanair, you can't beat the prices to fly throughout Europe--- All the best have a great trip. CK
